The Scottish Primary School Glee SIGNING Challenge - Calling all Schools

Extraordinary times require extraordinary efforts. So we are delighted to announce the coming launch of the Scottish Primary School Glee SIGNED challenge and to welcome to our team the amazing Layla Cooke. Layla first came to fame when she taught Lewis Capaldi how to sing Happy Birthday last year. She also signed for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers at three of their shows last year and earlier this year signed for the BBC's River City story time for young children. The 15 year old from Windygates, Fife worked with National Deaf Children's Society during lockdown to deliver online workshops for children 8-15 and has her own teaching academy which aims to teach signed songs and run sign language classes for both deaf and hearing young people. We are really chuffed that she has agreed to join us.

The SIGNING Challenge

The Song: Heroes (Could be) by Alesso ft Tove Lo

Overview: All Scotland's primary schools are invited to join our Signing Challenge. (registration details to come).

The Aim: To raise awareness of sign language and to help further signing skills across Scotland along with the benefits of song and dance.

The Challenge: To learn, develop and perform this year's set song within individual classes, the whole school (video assemblies) or school choirs (should safe-distancing requirements permit) using sign language. In true Glee style, schools will be encouraged to include dance/movement within their performance. Schools will be invited to submit videos of their choir(s), (individual classes, even composite assembly type videos can be posted), performing on a social media wall from November 20th (Universal Children's Day) through December.

Support: On-line support will be available to registered schools in the form of videos led by Layla Cooke (signing) and Laura Curran (dance and movement) with supporting lesson plans.
